Workshop date: Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 5 pm EST/ 2pm PST

Did you know that you may be required by law to report suspected abuse as an medical interpreter?  While it depends on where you’re located, many laws in the U.S. about what is called mandatory reporting are vague and rarely inclusive of interpreters.  In this workshop we invite participants to examine mandatory reporting requirements through the lens of medical interpreting ethics.  We also explore the logistics of reporting when interpreting in the U.S. healthcare system, not only in situations where the patient and interpreter are in the same locality, but also under circumstances in which the interpreter may be in a different state, or even country.  Participants are also encouraged to consider whether they have an ethical responsibility to report, even absent clear legal requirements.

The workshop is delivered live on Zoom or can be watched as a recording. Students will need to spend 1 hour watching/attending the presentation and at least 1 hour completing the self-paced exercises. In order to obtain a certificate of completion, the student must complete and pass the included quizzes with a grade of at least 70%.
