Each ”question” in this assessment is really the lines of the doctor, patient, or person with Limited English Proficiency. Answering each “question” consists of 3 steps:
Step 1. Interpret. In this step, you will play the recording of the lines of the doctor, patient, or person with Limited English Proficiency, listen to the audio, take notes at the same time, and then record your rendition in your other language. The steps may be slightly different depending on your language pair.

The audio will always be in English for the doctor’s lines, and you will interpret them into Spanish. For the patient, you will see a recording in English and Spanish. You will always listen to the recording in Spanish and interpret into English. You will see images of doctors, patients, and individuals with Limited English Proficiency to help you identify who is speaking, and you should always record each rendition using your own recording device, e.g., your computer, cellphone, physical recorder, etc. |
The audio will always be in English for the doctor’s lines, and you will interpret them into your other language.
Whether you choose option 1 or 2, it’s best to be consistent with your choice throughout the assessment to have an accurate grade. The grade will be representative of your memory skills, which are essential for consecutive interpretation. |
